Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
Before 49,000 years to the grave of Shanidar in Iraq annexed it is also in the traditional medicine of China, Europe and the Indians of great relevance. Germanic "garwe" means "the healing"; so it was added to soup as protection against plague and was indispensable in herbal bunches and at festivals and full moons.
The ancient Romans reported its use as a so-called "soldier's herb". Ancient and medieval physicians such as Dioscorides, Galen, Pseudo-Apuleius, Bock and Matthioli, even Goethe considered it drying and wound healing for internal and external injuries.
"Whoever suffered an internal injury, powder yarrow and drink this powder in warm water." wrote Hildegard of Bingen in the 12th century. "After cleaning the wound, boil yarrow lightly in water and squeeze the water a little and bind it delicately over the bandage that lies on the wound while it is still warm, and in this way it takes away the festering and ulceration of the wound and heals the wound. Proceed in this way often, as long as necessary. When the wound contracts and starts to heal, then you can remove the bandage and put the (cooked/warm) yarrow directly on the wound and it will heal even more complication-free and perfectly.
Hieronymus Bock devoted wide space to yarrow in his New Kreuterbuch and writes about its hemostatic effect: "Dis herb is of a repugnant nature. where you crunch the herb and put that on the bloody wounds, the blood confesses."
